Is Google Plus the New Facebook?

With Facebooks new changes causing a profound amount of un-satisfaction within its users, many are making a change to its new contender Google Plus.  Google+ is a new type of social media that was launched last week that is supposed to rival Facebook.  With a 1,300 percent increase of users over the span of one week, Google+ is looking promising.  There are stark differences between the powerhouse Facebook and Google+ though.  For instance Google+ does not have a "wall" where users can communicate with each other.

Google+ is looking promising, but it is a little bare to say the least.  This is not a surprise though with the new outlet being in its infant state.  A code writer curious with the new social media discovered a few possible updates in Google+ that would close the gap between it and Facebook.  The first discovery was an implication of voice capability that allows users to communicate by voice like a phone call.  Facebook has a similar feature after they partnered with Skype where users can communicate through video.  Another feature Google+ may implicate is "Google Experts".  This feature allows users to conduct a Q & A similar too Yahoo Answers.  This is a feature that Facebook does not have.  There is also a potential for Google+ to add a "wall".  This wall will be different from Facebooks "wall" because only the person receiving the wall post can see it, making the post private.  With Google+ completely lacking in the photo area, where Facebook strives, a possibility of more photo options are coming in the future so they can compete.  Lastly, like any social network, privacy settings are the most important asset to protect users.  Google+ is looking too simplify its privacy settings.  They look offer four options from completely open to completely hide all content posted by a user to the open web.

All though these features where found in the code of Google+, it does not mean that they will all be added.  Google is looking to experiment with a number of settings before making it their final product.  But with Facebooks constant changing to only more complicated layouts with the same features, Google+ is seeming to become what Facebook used to be.  A simple, user friendly way to connect with ones peers that is....cool.

  1. I was very interested to see what would happen once Google + was released, just because I like so much of what Google does as a company. However, it seems like though there was an early surge of interest in Google +, it has died down a bit. I haven't been on my Google + account but 2 or 3 times. I read an article the other day that suggested that visits and interest in the site has dropped rapidly. It is an indication of the power of Google, however, that Facebook made many Google+-like additions about the time that Google+ released to the public.

  2. I am honestly in favor right now of Google+. It seems every time Facebook changes or "updates" their website, a larger outbreak of aggravated users ensues, me being one of them. Now with Facebook Timeline coming out in the near future, I am debating on whether or not to stay connected through the site. Google+ keeps it simple and that's what I think is their greatest attribute. They may be losing interest right now but it will be interesting to see what will happen after Facebook drops the Timeline.

  3. Google plus can be a very big competitors for Facebook but I just wonder that since there are so many people already using the Facebook, it might take few years for Google plus to reach the amount of users they want. So far, Facebook is still the dominating social network in the world. The Google plus features that you introduced is interesting and I think I'll go get my Google plus account set up now.

  5. I agree with many of your points. Although Google+ has potential for growth, I don't think it can even really be considered a "competitor" for Facebook. Facebook boasts billions of members, where as Google+ is really only being used by the "early adapter" crowd. I do however, think that both a Facebook profile and Google+ profile are beneficial to have. Google is a main search engine, and from a job-hunting perspective I think that a Google+ account is a great help because it improves your "Google search rankings"
